MONNAIE DE PARIS, paris , france
20.10.2017 - 28.01.2018
Joana Vasconcelos takes part in the great exhibition Women House, organized by the Monnaie de Paris, in collaboration with the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington DC.
Curated by Camille Morineau and Lucia Pesapanne, this show, which will be the first of a series of group shows of women artists, addresses the relationship between two concepts: a genre - the feminine - and a space - the domestic. Starting from a text by Virginia Wolf, written in 1929, in which the author defends the claim of women's space in the house and, therefore, in society, the commissioners have drawn an expositive course of eight chapters, exploring the complexity of the various perspectives on the subject.
The exhibition brings together works by thirty-nine artists of various generations and nationalities, from renowned names such as Louise Bourgeois, Niki de Saint Phalle, Martha Rosler, Mona Hatoum, Cindy Sherman and Rachel Whiteread to the younger generations with Pia Camil (Mexico), Nazgol Ansarinia (Iran), Isa Melsheimer (Germany) and Laure Tixier (France), among others.
Joana Vasconcelos's La Theière (2010) will be shown, together with other monumental works, in one of the courtyards of the historic Monnaie building in Paris, located between the Ponte das Artes [Bridge of the Arts] and the Ponte Nova [New Bridge].
