Public art works
Nice and Paris, France
Joana Vasconcelos was invited by the municipalities of Paris and Nice to create a permanent public art work for each of the French cities to be installed in 2018.
The City of Nice announced its invitation to a group of artists to create a work for the city's new West-East metro line, selected by a committee of experts led by Jean-Jacques Aillagon, former Minister of Culture of France. A group of 12 French and international artists, some of them from the city of Nice, will have their works installed along 9 stations. The work of Vasconcelos will be installed in Ferber station, on the city's seafront promenade.
The artist will also create a public work of art for the city of Paris, in the context of an artistic program that accompanies the works deriving from the extension of the surface metro line. This is an initiative of the Municipality of Paris, together with the Fondation de France, which aims to involve citizens in planning the area. Joana Vasconcelos was the artist chosen by a group of residents of the 18th district of Paris to create a project to be installed in the Porte de Clignancourt.
