NAZARETH PACHECO
gota a gota

pinacoteca, são paulo

11.04.2015 - 18.10.2015

Invited by Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo for a site-specific project, Nazareth Pacheco presents the intervention Gota a Gota (Drop by Drop), made of more than 2000 bronze drops in 30 different shapes and sizes, created especially for the main lift of the museum.

The idea originated whilst in the process of making another work, a large curtain of glass bead, crystals and razor blades. Although the artist was careful throughout the production, it was inevitable to avoid cutting herself; therefore, sometimes she had to interrupt the work to stop the bleeding. Pacheco once observed a fallen drop of blood on the paper and photographed it, which became the beginning of a reflection on the structure and the representation of drops in the everyday life. For the installation at Pinacoteca, the artist says that she pictured “the bronze sculptures on the second and third floors melting and transforming into drops that started occupying several spaces in the elevator.”
