textures of life
AROS AARHUS ART MUSEUM, AARHUS, Denmark
14.10.2016 - 19.02.2017
The Danish museum ARoS Aarhus Art Museum opens on October 14th a vast solo show by Joana Vasconcelos, in which the artist presents the largest Valquíria she has ever done so far, which will also become part of the museum's collection.
The exhibition Textures of Life includes not only some of the artist's most iconic artworks, such as A Noiva, Coração Independente, Marilyn and Lilicoptère, but it also shows a trajectory of 20 years, including works from 1996 until nowadays. There will be 17 installations presented in a singular device made of hanging fabrics.
Valkyrie Rán has 50 meters wide and it has been made specifically to the ARoS, stretching itself through the eight floors of the building. The installation matches traditional techniques that characterize the Valquírias, such as knitting and embroidery, with the LED technology and the refined fabrics by Kvadrat, Europe's leading manufacturer of design textiles. The musician Jonas Runa created a composition of light and sound specifically for this work, adding to it a new particularity.
