Daniel Lie used the studio at Künstlerhaus Bethanien as a research base to investigate the processes of decay. Inspired by an arrangement of rotten fruits and vegetables that have been placed on a plate in Lie's studio for months, the exhibition visualizes the various stages in the development of fresh and rotten matter. The installation stimulates the human senses and wants to generate physical reactions. Scales of Decay is Lie's first solo exhibition in Berlin and expands the boundaries between what is valued as living and dead matter.
