DANIEL LIE . 35ª BIENAL DE SÃO PAULO

FUNDAÇÃO BIENAL DE SÃO PAULO

Casa Triângulo is delighted to announce Daniel Lie's participation in the 35th Bienal de São Paulo – coreografias do impossível [choreographies of the impossible].

Bringing artistic practices from different parts of the world, the 35th Bienal de São Paulo “desires to build spaces and times of perception that challenge the rigidity of the linearity of Western time. What we see in this choreographic horizon are strategies and policies of the movement that these practices have been creating to imagine worlds that confront the ideas of freedom, justice and equality as impossible achievements”, affirm Diane Lima, Grada Kilomba, Hélio Menezes and Manuel Borja-Villel, that are the curatorial collective for the exhibition.

"Based on legacy migration and queer studies, Daniel Lie's work demonstrates how abjection can be a tool of subversion and expansion. His practice celebrates the natural cycles of transformation and the many interdependent exchanges that structure ecosystems. A fundamental aspect of Daniel Lie's practice is the desire to develop works that decentralize human action and subjectivity.

Working collaboratively with forces they call “non-human beings” such as bacteria, fungi, plants, animals, minerals, spirits and ancestors, Lie creates place- and time-specific works that can be experienced through multisensory channels. By giving visibility to materials that transform, decay and evolve, Lie's ecosystems highlight the intimate and expansive coexistences between diverse beings, recognizing our shared and continuous participation in the processes of living, dying and decomposing."
